March for the officiality of the Asturian language "a question of democratic right pending for decades"

A thousand people demonstrate in Uviéu/Oviedo by the Asturian language to be recognized as official by the Spanish state. On May 3rd it was celebrated the forty Asturian language day to demand that the political parties in the next term carry out an amendment to the Statute of Autonomy that converts the Asturian into a co-official language.

The demonstration, called every year by the Xunta pola Defense of the Asturian Llingua to mark the Day of the Asturian Letters, was held in a festive atmosphere to the rhythm of several bands of bagpipes and with slogans such as "If this does not work, cane". The Xunta pola Defense of the Asturian Llingua has ensured in a manifesto read after the march that the officiality is an "emergency" and a "moral obligation for any democratic person".

The traditional demonstration organized every year by the Xunta pola Defense of the Asturian Llingua was held after the Asturian parliament rejected last November, with the vote against PSOE, PP, Citizens and Forum, to begin the processing of an initiative of Podemos and IU to promote a reform of the Statute of Autonomy that incorporated the co-officiality of the Asturian.

The Socialists maintained their rejection of this measure despite the fact that at the last Congress of the PSOE, changed its historical position of rejection to go on to support. In relation to this matter, Podemos Asturias has advanced that the first law that will promote in the new legislature will be the reform of the statute of autonomy to achieve the official status of the Asturian and Galician-Asturian.
