N-VA wants a mandatory test on the Flemish culture as integration policy

A mandatory test on the Flemish culture: the N-VA (New Flemish Alliance) invests in a much stricter integration policy. N-VA is keen to invest heavily in a much stricter integration policy, according to a draft of a note from the Flemish negotiators. In opinion leader of Bart De Wever, integration policies in Belgium are of "great weakness".

An obligatory test should be used to show the knowledge of the "Flemish cannon", a list of anchors of Flemish culture and history that students and newcomers will need to know. This working document can be further negotiated in more detail. One thing is certain, notes De Morgen, if the integration policy is entrusted to the N-VA, it will lead to an increase in obligations and fewer rights.

Corsica Libera faces "the unacceptable exclusion of the Corsicans from their own land"

The political movement Corsica Libera (Free Corsica) was yesterday on the site of the Marina di Bravone building complex, still under construction, to protest against the "unacceptable exclusion of the Corsicans from their land" . Initially planned last week, the press conference was postponed to yesterday "the tragedy occurred in Carghjese during the assassination of Massimu Susini," said Éric Simoni, in front of forty people.

Nine Catalans detained by the Spanish military police

Nine pro-independence activists were arrested today at dawn by Spain’s military police. The operation has been called for by Spain’s Inquisition Court in Madrid. Sources of the court said that the activists are members of the CDR pro-independence group. The detained individuals have been moved to Madrid.

Last year two other activists were accused – one of them, Adrià Carrasco, went into exile, and the other one, Tamara Carrasco, was held in her town before the charges were dropped for both.

The CDR organization reacted to the arrests on Twitter, saying: "No matter how many indiscriminate raids and arbitrary detentions there are, they won't stop a determined and combative people."

The CDR, or Committees for the Defence of the Republic, are a network of pro-independence assemblies set up in 2017 that defend the bid split from Spain by promoting peaceful demonstrations and protests. The arrests come as the verdict in the trial of independence leaders in the Supreme Court is due out soon.

Protest against the indictment "for terrorism" of 5 Sardinians for demonstrations against military base

Five Sardinian people were under investigation "for terrorism" as part of an Italian police  investigation into demonstrations against military bases in Sardinia organized between 2014 and 2017 by the crossparty movement A Foras-- Contra a s'ocupatzione militare de sa Sardigna who leads the conflict against the military occupation of Sardinia. A Foras was founded on June 2016. Yestarday some dozens concentraded in Casteddu against the repression saying that the military bases cause terror not the protests against them. A rally is organized by A Foras on October 12nd against the military bases.

For more then 50 years Sardinia has been occupied on thousands of hectares by military firing ranges, military airports and bases, a bomb factory and at least a hundred other military buildings. On our island, nearly two thirds of the total Italian military asset is “hosted”. But never have we remained just watching: since the 1960s various actions have been brought up, including demonstrations and protests, the most famous one being the one of Pratobello, near Orgosolo, in 1969, but we can also remember Tertenia, Sinis and La Maddalena.
In the last three years new life has been given to the movement, starting from the big demo against the Military Range of Capo Frasca in September 2014, which ended in an en masse entrance of protesters beyond the military nets. Since then, there have been more demos and obstructions against military drills. The movement has so found in direct action one of its most fruitful practices. On the other hand, the Italian State, with the silence of Sardinian government, has continuously shown brute force and its muscles. Bigger drills have been organized over the last years, occupying also new parts of Sardinian waters: an example is the Mare Aperto 2017 drill that caused fishermen to be cleared out from their usual fishing grounds. Other interests of our counter party have been the expansion of the bomb factory at Domusnovas, the so called RWM, and the further state financing of the Sardinia AeroSpace District, called DASS. For these reasons, the single and few demonstrations cannot be enough: it is necessary to start a structured political project on various levels that works on short, medium and long terms, knowing that our conflict won’t end in a few years.

has come up with different actions: demos at Capofrasca and Quirra to block military drills, a festival on June 2nd 2017 in Cagliari with a mass demo and an event where many artists have played to support our cause, organizing encounters in schools, universities and towns. On these occasions, we have presented our works and dossiers on the damage done by the military occupation of our island and raise up the debate for so much time soothed by the stance and the fabrications of the Italian Ministry of Defense.
All these activities wouldn’t have been possible without the creation of the six permanent working-tables which, hand in hand with the general assembly, make up the backbone of A FORAS. These tables, whose work is dedicated among other things to activism in schools and universities, to the communication and the effects of the military bases on the territories, were actually born during the first A Foras Camp, which was in 2016 in Lanusei. Last year’s event has been essential also for the rooting of the movement in the area of Ogliastra. This area and the one of Sarrabus are oppressed by the biggest military range in Europe, the one of Quirra. The latter being the stage of thorium missile launches, the abandonment of military waste below and above ground, and most of all it is sadly famous for a syndrome that carries its name that has caused heavy damage to the wellbeing and health of the surrounding population.

Corsica's President: "Speculation can revive violence"

Gilles Simeoni, Femu a Corsica coalition leader says that "The context is extremely disturbing. Whenever a man dies under bullets on the island - let alone when it comes to a young Corsican - we must feel affected, but also accountable to the extent that we are responsible. It is up to us to create the conditions that will enable island society to finally emerge from this mortifying cycle to embark on the road to peace."

CLNV Manifesto:
