Rally on Sunday 17th to save the teaching of Occitan

« A language is well worth a cathedral

(Una lenga val ben una catedrala) »

- Joan Bodon (Occitan writer)

The French minister of national education, J-M Blanquer, and the rectorat (school district) of Toulouse have decided to destroy the teaching of Occitan:
At the national state level, all incentives to choose Occitan for the French baccalaureate are suppressed and Occitan is prevented from having the same status as Latin-Greek.
At the school district level, all the financial means previously granted to schools for Occitan are axed. Due to a lack of sufficient financing very few courses of Occitan will survive.
The decisions made by the French State are at odds with many commitments made to local authorities. France puts itself in an illegal situation by flouting the code of education and even the constitution of the republic.

Occitan is one of the fundamental features of the identity of Occitan regions (Occitanie, Provence, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle Aquitaine).

For more than 40 years, the doors of the schools in the Toulouse district have progressively opened to accept the teaching of Occitan in a remarkably consistent manner.
Further to this brutal backtrack, the Partit de la Nacion Occitana, Lo Clusèl, the Centre Régional des Enseignants d'Occitan de Toulouse (CREO), FELCO, IEO, Calandretas, Convergéncia occitana and other Occitan organisations call on all those who are attached as they are to the respect of linguistic and cultural diversity in our territories, who support a voluntary and ambitious policy for Occitan and its full development within schools, to demonstrate:
