Frisian National Party defends the Fryske Akademy in the Government Agreement on Frisian Language and Culture

The Frisian National Party (FNP) wants a solid and robust scientific, qualitative and financial future for the Fryske Akademy (Frisian Academy). In the matter of the College of the Provincial Executive of Friesland, the party demands attention. This led to the recently concluded Government Agreement on Frisian Language and Culture (BFTK), which states that in the summer of 2019 the position will be reviewed. The FNP is now asking for clarification on the use of the Provincial Government.

The FNP wants the Fryske Akademy to remain a fully-fledged and robust scientific institute, which operates as an institution under the institutional and research order of the KNAW. This is to ensure that at least the same high scientific standards will continue to work in the future.

If the province of Fryslân delivers a large financial contribution every year, it is also important that a large amount of ownership remains over the future of the Fryske Akademy. As for the FNP, the existing 'education agreement' must also be implemented on a material, financial and legal basis.

Finally, the FNP wants to know what the imposition of the Board will be to ensure that the financial position of the Fryske Akademy will be solid for now and in the future. And to, if necessary, join the Academy.
