Joseph Colombani, member of the national office of Corsica Libera, was sentenced on March 8th to 1,000 € fine for contempt of the principal of a high school student. He was found guilty of insulting him in September in a controversy over the place of the Corsican language in high school. Judged in the criminal court of Bastia for "insults and threats" Colombani denied having made outrageous remarks. Prosecuto requested 15 days in prison and the revocation of a sentence of one month suspended in 2017.
A controversy around the Corsican language. The facts occurred in September at Fium Orbu high school, in the eastern plain, where a controversy called "So who" had inflamed the island social networks. A second grade student answered during the call of his French teacher "so who" means "present" in Corsican. The teacher had then asked him to mark his presence in French, which he had refused to do during several successive courses and had taken him to the school director. Banners "lingua viva" and "lingua corsa" defending the Corsican language were then fixed on the gates of the school. Joseph Colombani, the parent of a high school student, entered the high school without authorization and was accused of uttering "insults and threats" against the head of school and his deputy.
