The Anti-Internment League held a rally at Belfast City Hall on August 10th to oppose the continuing
internment of, and injustices perpetrated against, Republican prisoners.
As well as the draconian conditions imposes on those released on bail
or licence. This rally was called after a intended march was
effectively banned from the City Centre by the State.
Hundreds of people heard a speech from Ger Devereux of the Abolish the Special Courts Campaign, while Trade Unionist and Republican activist Ollie White read a statement from miscarriage of justice victim JP Wootton of the Craigavon 2.
Despite provocation from pro-British death squad supporters and the Crown Forces at the conclusion of the rally, those gathered naintained their discipline and dispersed into the City Centre in a dignified way.
